Before Playing T20 world cup and getting ODI status, Nepal was known by heroics of it’s U19 team in cricketing world than senior side.
They won plate Championship in 2006 and left first message to the world about cricket being culture in our country. How good Nepal have been in U19 level can be proved by the fact that out of 9 U19 world cups since 1998, Nepal misses the event only thrice.
Unlike senior team, they had already beaten test nations India, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand, Zimbabwe,Bangladesh and Ireland at this level.
In Nepal, Where there is no proper domestic structure to do well and get selected for national team, U19 level act as bridge for national selection with Binod Das being the engineer of the bridge. From current national team be it senior country men Khadka,Malla and Regmi or Young guns Anil,Rohit,Lamichane,Airee and Aarif everyone had done well at U19 level before getting selected for senior team.
When news spread out about Nepal U19 playing quadrangular Series with India U19, NCA U19 and Afghanistan U19 fan back home took no time to share there happiness in social media. But for Binod Das(Mother-Father, Caretaker, Head-Coach, Cheif-Selector, everything of Nepal U19 team) it was a big headache to form the team in such a short period of time since there hadn’t held any U19 level domestic tournament in Nepal after banishment of CAN.
Considering scarcity of time and lack of resources Das who use to go for talent scout for selection, this time called budding talent for trial in Battisputali. And fews days later, talented wicket-keeper opening batsman Aasif Seikh led 15 boys squad was announced which considered few names from that talent hunt and other known faces from previous U19 batch.
Aasif Sheikh(C and WK), Pawan Sarraf, Rashid Khan, Bhim Sharki, Kishore Mahato, Kamal Singh Airee, Sandeep Jora, Trit Raj Das, Ravi Sah, Bipin Rawal, Lokesh Bam, Rit Gautam, Sagar Dhakal, Arun Airee, Samsad Alam
